Herbie Popnecker - Cover Model!!

It's Herbie time again, and with Forbidden Worlds #114, our little fat nothing graduates to the cover.

Herbie comes into his own here and the pure absurdity rises to the surface like cream rising to the top of a bottle of milk.

Read on as ACG really gives Ogden Whitney room to move and Herbie gets the flushing out he deserves...

How's that for real life insight. The President of the United States calls on you to handle a crisis and your own family still thinks your a worthless turd. That my friends is the real satire of this strip...Ogden Whtiney knew his stuff.

Not to mention Jackie Kennedy had some serious eyes for our little hero. JFK got Marilyn, Jackie got the lovin' only our favorite little fat boy could give.

Here's more of what the fans were telling the editors of ACG.

And if Jackie Kennedy's fawning isn't enough, here's what Alan Moore (in my opinion, the greatest comic writer of our day...Watchmen, Top Ten, Tom Strong, Saga of the Swamp Thing, Hellblazer, V for Vendetta...) had to say about The Fat Fury

Talk to you soon.

Ogden Whitney's Masterpiece, for sure. I enjoy his Western comic work also~ but~ practically creating a new genre was a stroke of genius~!

Good point Lys...this is a whole seperate genre practically. And genuinely funny and well written and drawn without any flashiness...my favorite!

I'm curious about the throwaway line on p. 2 revealing that Herbie lives "2,561 miles" from Washington, DC. Is there anyone with the knowhow to type that into the GPS and give us an idea of Herbie's locale?
Not that geography was Richard Hughes's strong suit. I'll accept talking animals, anthropomorphic death rays shot from the eyes of a stone idol, walking on air, and Jacqueline Kennedy's crush on a 3-by-3-by-3-foot adolescent--but TIGERS in AFRICA?

Them tiger's get around in comics.

WOW! Lot's of comments from you on various "Herbie" posts, Sam. Thanks for stopping by and being so vocal. The Comments are my favorite part of doing this!
